Making the most of a return of sunshine and blues skies to our corner of Northumberland I decided to visit and do a little photographic study of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Old Bewick.
A beautiful little Norman church, hidden away up a country lane, surrounded perfectly by a copse of firs and deciduous trees. Its place in the ancient landscape, is over looked by Iron age forts, with a stream running around the edge of the churchyard, this place will have been very special long before the 1st church was commisioned in 1107.
There was restoration work done in the 14th century, but it was almost a ruin before a rebuiding effort began in 1866 (I was lent a picture of the church in a ruined state, don’t think I ever scanned it though…).
